Prof. Han received his BS degree in the Department of Architectural Engineering, Hanyang University, Korea, and the MS and Ph. D. degrees in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, US in 1990 and 1994, respectively. He had researched the reliability based calibration of seismic design parameters during his Ph.D. He had been a visiting scholar in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of California at Berkeley, CA, USA in 2004-2005. During that period, Prof. Han had studied approximate procedure for predicting nonlinear behavior of complex structures and the seismic behavior of steel moment connections.
Since Prof. Han became a professor in 1997, he have taught many courses: for graduate level, structural dynamics, structural reliability, ductile behavior of steel structures and earthquake engineering, and for undergraduate level, structural analysis I, II, reinforce concrete I, II, steel structures, engineering probability, and mechanics of materials. He received “Best teaching awards” two times from Hanyang University in 2008 and 2009. In recent years, he have conducted somewhat broad research topics such as seismic performance evaluation of steel moment frames having WUF-W and RBS-B connections, experimental investigation of WUF-W connections, cyclic test of post tensioned flat plate slabs, development of an approximate incremental dynamic analysis and software, evaluation of seismic behavior of buildings having irregularities, and development of optimistic toggle damper bracing systems. Prof. Han has published more than 100 journal papers, among which 36 are international journal papers, and his research results were presented in numerous conferences, and has received best research paper awards from academic societies several times. Also, Prof. Han has been listed in the Marquis Who’s Who in the World, 2010. He has two professional licenses: professional engineer (US) and structural engineer (Korea).
Currently, he is an active member in several international and local academic socities.
